Ariana Grande has earned her seventh No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 with Petal, which opened with 295,000 equivalent album units — her strongest debut this decade.
According to Variety, The album’s release has generated considerable discussion, particularly after Grande announced plans to take a sabbatical from public life.
Despite the controversy surrounding some of its songs and videos, the attention appears to have helped drive interest in the record.
Petal marks Grande’s biggest opening since 2019. Her previous album, Eternal Sunshine, debuted with 227,000 units in 2024.
The new release also surpassed the opening figures of Sweetener and Positions.
Only Thank U, Next, which launched with 360,000 units in 2019, had a stronger debut among her eight studio albums.
Of Petal’s 295,000 units, 168,000 came from album sales, giving Grande her second-biggest sales week.
My Everything, released in 2014, remains her best-selling debut week. Vinyl accounted for 96,000 of the new album’s sales.
The album also generated 128.83 million on-demand streams, equivalent to 126,000 streaming-equivalent album units.
Elsewhere on the Billboard 200, Morgan Wallen’s I’m the Problem dropped to No. 2 with 75,000 units, while Olivia Rodrigo’s You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love fell to No. 3 with 74,000.
Ella Langley’s Dandelion ranked fourth, followed by Noah Kahan’s The Great Divide, Drake’s Iceman, Wallen’s One Thing at a Time, Olivia Dean’s The Art of Loving, Michael Jackson’s Thriller and Kahan’s Stick Season.
Wallen and Kahan remain the only artists with two albums in the current top 10.
Grande could hold the top spot for another week, with no major superstar releases expected to challenge Petal.
The album currently has the sixth-biggest opening of 2026.
BTS’ Arirang leads the year with 641,000 debut units, followed by Rodrigo’s You Seem Pretty Sad… with 485,000, Drake’s Iceman with 463,000, Harry Styles’ Kiss All the Time.
Disco Occasionally with 430,000 and Kahan’s The Great Divide with 389,000.
