Christopher Nolan’s upcoming adaptation of The Odyssey has sparked renewed global interest in Homer’s ancient epics, sending a deluxe edition of The Iliad and The Odyssey to the top of bestseller charts.
According to Variety, the hardbound edition, titled Homer: The Iliad & The Odyssey, has climbed to the No. 1 spot on Amazon’s bestseller list ahead of the film’s release. The 768-page English-language volume brings together the two classic Greek epics in a single edition.
The collection includes The Iliad, Homer’s account of the Trojan War, alongside The Odyssey, which follows Odysseus as he faces a series of dangerous challenges on his long journey home to Ithaca after the war.
The surge in sales comes as Nolan prepares to unveil his highly anticipated adaptation of the nearly 3,000-year-old epic poem. The film’s star-studded cast, including Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Tom Holland and Charlize Theron, arrived in London earlier this week for the global premiere, officially launching what is widely expected to become one of the biggest films of the summer.
Nolan’s film follows Odysseus after the Trojan War as he encounters legendary figures and mythical dangers, including the Cyclops, the Sirens and Calypso, during his voyage home.
Speaking to Variety on the red carpet, Matt Damon described the production as one of the most demanding experiences of his career.
“It felt like six or seven movies in one, because it kind of was,” Damon said. “Each location was incredibly challenging, but each location was challenging in a different way.”
He added that he jokingly told producer Emma Thomas about a month into filming, “Thank God I’m not producing.”
For audiences planning to watch the film, the newly popular deluxe edition offers a complete introduction to Homer’s legendary works. The Iliad provides the historical backdrop of the Trojan War, while The Odyssey tells the epic adventure that inspired Nolan’s latest cinematic adaptation.
