Police have arrested an 18-year-old man for allegedly trying to rape a four-year-old girl in Dhaka’s Kamrangirchar area.
The incident occurred in the Borogram neighbourhood around 8:30pm on Saturday.
The child’s father filed a complaint with Kamrangirchar Police Station. He said a tenant from a neighbouring house, Sajib, lured his daughter into his room and attempted to assault her.
Locals rescued the girl after hearing her screams. They then caught Sajib and handed him over to police after a public beating.
The victim received treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Kamrangirchar Police Station’s Acting Officer-in-Charge, Md Omar Faruk, confirmed the events.
He said the child’s mother later filed a case.
Police arrested Sajib based on the allegations in the case file. The investigation continues.
