A teen was shot and injured in Mallikbari road area under Harintana Police Station in Khulna on Saturday evening.
The victim, identified as Fatema alias Tonni, aged around 15 to 18.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Helal Uddin of Harintana Police Station confirmed the incident.
Tonni is currently undergoing treatment at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH), where doctors have declared her out of danger.
According to the victim, the incident took place while she was speaking with her mother in front of her house before leaving for her aunt’s residence.
Tonni reported hearing a loud noise from behind, followed by intense pain in her right thigh. Upon checking, she discovered she was bleeding from a gunshot wound.
Tonni said neither she nor her family members saw who fired the shot.
The OC Helal said locals rescued the victim and rushed her to KMCH. “Police immediately visited the hospital to collect primary information from the victim,” the OC said.
He added that a police investigation is underway to identify the perpetrators and determine the motive behind the shooting.
No arrests have been made as of the filing of this report.
This incident follows a similar occurrence on 3 July, when a Class X schoolgirl named Ity was shot in Rupsha area of Khulna.
