A school student was shot by unidentified assailants in the WAPDA embankment road area of Rupsha upazila in Khulna on Friday evening.
The victim, Ity, 17, daughter of Zulfikar Rahman, is a Class X student at Rupsha Bahumukhi Secondary School.
According to her family, Ity was standing in front of her house, talking to friends after studying, when a group of miscreants wearing helmets arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire around 7:45pm and fled the scene immediately.
She sustained a bullet injury to her leg and was rushed to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where she is undergoing treatment.
Following the incident, law enforcement personnel visited the scene, collected evidence, and launched an investigation into the attack.
Sub-Inspector Abdus Sattar of Khulna Police Station said three attackers riding a motorcycle targeted the teenager while she was standing outside her home.
“The bullet struck her leg. The attackers fled immediately after the shooting, and police have launched a drive to arrest those involved,” he said.
Police are investigating the motive behind the attack.
