A madrasa teacher and two students sustained burn injuries after being electrocuted while installing a signboard on the rooftop of a madrasa in Dhaka’s Mirpur area on Sunday morning.
The incident took place at around 10am on the rooftop of Ashraful Ulum Madrasa, a three-storey building in Rupnagar’s Duaripara area.
The injured were identified as Salman Farsi, 24, a teacher at the madrasa, and students Maruf Hasan, 14, and Khairul Islam, 12.
All three were taken to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, where they are undergoing treatment.
According to Jahidul Islam, a fellow teacher who accompanied the victims to the hospital, the trio had gone to the rooftop to install a madrasa banner when it accidentally touched an electric wire running alongside the building, resulting in the electrocution of the three and subsequent burn injuries.
The victims suffered burns to different parts of their bodies and were rushed to the hospital immediately after the incident.
Shawon Bin Rahman, resident physician at the burn institute, said Maruf sustained burns to 18 per cent of his body and has been admitted for treatment.
Salman and Khairul suffered burns to 2 per cent and 3 per cent of their bodies, respectively. Both are currently under observation and receiving medical care, he added.
