Star batter Tanzid Hasan Tamim has joined the Pakistan Super League (PSL), becoming the sixth Bangladeshi cricketer to secure a contract in this season’s tournament.
The move comes shortly after the Bangladesh–Pakistan series, when former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja suggested a PSL franchise could snap up the in-form opener. That prediction has now materialised.
Tamim has signed for Peshawar Zalmi, where fellow Bangladesh pacers Nahid Rana and Shoriful Islam are also set to feature. Nahid earned his place through the PSL draft, while Shoriful was added earlier as a direct signing.
The number of Bangladeshi players in this year’s PSL has now risen to six.
Mustafizur Rahman secured a contract before the draft, with his franchise Lahore Qalandars later drafting Parvez Hossain Emon. Nahid was also picked in the draft.
Meanwhile, leg-spinner Rishad Hossain, one of the key architects of Lahore’s title triumph last season, was signed by Rawalpindi’s new franchise RawalPindiz franchise.
Shoriful sealed his deal after the Pakistan series, while Tamim’s signing also followed his performances in that contest.
Mustafizur is set to earn around PKR 65 million. Emon and Nahid will receive approximately PKR 6 million each, while Rishad’s contract is valued at PKR 30 million. The contract figures for Shariful and Tamim have not been disclosed.
Peshawar begin their PSL campaign on 28 March against RawalPindiz, a match that could see Rishad lining up against Nahid, Shoriful and Tamim. They next face Islamabad United on 31 March, before meeting Lahore — featuring Mustafizur and Emon — on 11 April. Lahore enter the tournament as the defending champions.
