Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) ad-hoc committee president Tamim Iqbal has spoken about the recent ICC delegation visit to Bangladesh ahead of Saturday’s BCB election.
Questions emerged after Tamim missed an ICC meeting. Soon afterwards, an ICC delegation arrived in Bangladesh and met various stakeholders involved in cricket administration.
According to the ICC, the delegation visited Bangladesh to discuss governance and election-related matters with key stakeholders.
Tamim said the representatives met several groups during their visit. Those meetings included discussions with members of the election commission.
“ICC stakeholders spoke with everyone. They held a meeting of around one-and-a-half hours with our election commission about how the election would be conducted. They also spoke with me,” Tamim said.
He added that ICC officials planned to complete discussions with all parties before sharing their observations.
“They told us they would hold discussions after speaking with everyone and then come back to us,” he said.
Tamim also rejected speculation surrounding the ICC visit.
“We respect that process. There were some rumours during this period, but the ICC has already clarified that no such discussions took place and no such comments were made to anyone,” he said.
His comments came after reports suggested the ICC had privately raised concerns about the election process.
Tamim also discussed criticism surrounding the upcoming election.
The former Bangladesh captain said he had previously raised concerns about election procedures. However, he stressed that he had not targeted individuals.
“When the last election took place, I also spoke about many things. But I do not think I personally attacked anyone. I mostly discussed the process and how the election was conducted,” he said.
Tamim urged all parties to maintain respect during public debate.
“Everyone deserves respect. We try to maintain that. Unfortunately, many people are not doing that,” he said.
He also referred to comments directed at current and former cricketers.
“When comments were made about cricket players, people heard how those remarks were delivered. Everyone can express an opinion, but it is better for everyone if we avoid personal attacks.”
The BCB election will take place on 7 June. The result will determine the board’s leadership structure for the next term.
