Bangladesh spinner Taijul Islam suffered a bone contusion to the bowling finger on his left hand during Thursday’s training session in Darwin, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed on Friday.
The experienced left-armer picked up the injury while batting during Bangladesh’s final training session before the ongoing three-day warm-up match against Cricket Australia XI.
BCB physiotherapist Bayjedul Islam Khan said the finger has been bandaged and will be reassessed after the opening day of the warm-up fixture.
“Taijul Islam hurt his bowling finger while batting yesterday. He has suffered a bone contusion. Since then, we have kept the finger bandaged,” Bayjedul said.
“We will observe him again tomorrow.”
Because Taijul was unavailable to bowl after the injury, Bangladesh sought permission from the match officials and Cricket Australia to allow pace bowler Mushfik Hasan to bowl in the warm-up game.
“We spoke with the team management and the umpires and requested permission so that we could have Mushfik bowl instead. They agreed, and Mushfik was able to bowl today,” Bayjedul added.
The injury is another concern for Bangladesh ahead of the first Test against Australia, which begins in Darwin on August 13. The tourists are already without injured fast bowler Nahid Rana, while left-arm seamer Shoriful Islam is working towards a possible return for the second Test after a hamstring injury.
