Police have recovered a motorcycle without a number plate from Mazar slum in Tongi, near the spot where the body of former Air Force officer KM Tahsif Sauri was found in the Turag River.
The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) recovered the motorcycle on Friday morning, around 50 yards from the river.
Investigators are now verifying whether the recovered motorcycle belonged to Tahsif.
Abu Yusuf, superintendent of police at the PBI headquarters, confirmed the development, saying the vehicle was found near the location where Tahsif’s body was recovered.
He said investigators had conducted overnight operations at several locations with Dwip, who was with Tahsif before his death.
During questioning, Dwip reportedly told investigators that he and Tahsif were talking at the spot when several people chased them. Tahsif then jumped into the river, while Dwip fled the scene, Abu Yusuf said.
The PBI is examining Dwip’s account alongside other information obtained during questioning, he added.
PBI Chief Mostafa Kamal also confirmed the motorcycle’s recovery, saying Dwip had provided investigators with important information that was being verified.
The case is being investigated by the River Police, while the PBI is conducting a shadow investigation and assisting the River Police alongside other police units, Mostafa Kamal said.
He added that all evidence and information gathered by the PBI would be handed over to the River Police.
Tahsif’s body was recovered from the Turag River near Rajabari Ghat on Wednesday afternoon. The circumstances surrounding his death remain under investigation.
