Sylhet Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Sarwoer Alam has been withdrawn from his post and attached to the Ministry of Public Administration as a Deputy Secretary.
An official order issued on Sunday and signed by Senior Assistant Secretary Jeti Pro of the Ministry of Public Administration said the decision has been made in the public interest and will take immediate effect.
According to the order, Sarwar Alam has been relieved of his responsibilities as Sylhet DC and reassigned to the ministry.
During his tenure in Sylhet, Sarwoer Alam drew attention for a series of initiatives aimed at ensuring transparency in the management of donations and expenditures at the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal (R.) and Shah Paran (R.).
His measures included sealing multiple donation boxes, installing new ones, and introducing CCTV surveillance over donation collection points to enhance oversight.
While his initiatives were welcomed by sections of the public as steps toward greater transparency, they also reportedly faced resistance from groups historically associated with the management of shrine donations.
The latest administrative reshuffle comes amid these developments, though the order did not specify any reason beyond “public interest.”
