The Supreme Court administration has issued a directive to keep the affidavit sections of both the Appellate and High Court Divisions open this coming Saturday.
A notification signed by Supreme Court Registrar General Muhammad Habibur Rahman Siddique was released on Thursday, confirming this decision. Consequently, all relevant staff members employed in the affidavit section have been instructed to be present on duty on the specified date.
The decision follows an application submitted to the chief justice on 16 April by Md Mahfuzur Rahman Milon, the acting secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association, on behalf of 15,000 lawyers.
The bar association had requested that the affidavit section be kept open every Saturday to ease the difficulties faced by legal practitioners. In response to this request, the Supreme Court administration has directed the section to remain functional specifically for this coming Saturday.
The application to the chief justice highlighted that long queues and the extensive time required for affidavits during regular working days often prevent lawyers from filing cases on time. As a result, justice seekers are being deprived of timely redress.
It was argued that keeping the section open on Saturdays would benefit lawyers and significantly reduce the pressure on the affidavit department.
The application mentions that the affidavit sections of both divisions had previously remained open on Saturdays before the practice was discontinued.
