The Cyber and Special Crime (South) Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch arrested Sumaiya Saeed, 25, in connection with the case. Her alleged key associate, Khaja Saklain Faruk, was also arrested.
Sumaiya’s father, Md Abu Sayeed, has been named as an accused for allegedly being aware of his daughter’s activities and accepting money earned from them.
According to DB sources, police spotted objectionable content and advertisements for its sale on Sumaiya’s Instagram and Telegram accounts during cyber monitoring on 10 August.
The content was allegedly sold for fixed fees through mobile financial services including bKash and Nagad. Police also found an advertisement offering a “lifetime package” for Tk3,500.
Using technological assistance, investigators traced the suspects’ locations and raided a flat in Dhaka’s Bashundhara Residential Area on the night of 11 August.
Sumaiya was arrested during the operation. Police also seized an iPhone 17 Pro Max and a OnePlus smartphone from her possession.
Based on information provided by Sumaiya, investigators later arrested her alleged key associate, Khaja Saklain Faruk, from Dhaka Popular Travels in Badda.
During preliminary questioning, police learned that Sumaiya allegedly operated a network with several associates. Investigators also allege that her father was aware of her activities and accepted money earned from them.
A case has been filed with Ramna Model Police Station under the Adult Content Control Act, 2012.
Police have sought three-day remand for the two arrested suspects to investigate the alleged network, uncover details of its activities and arrest other suspects who remain at large.
