Stocks tumble as DSEX drops 82 points

Stocks in Bangladesh ended the week sharply lower on Thursday as key indices at both the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) declined, with most listed companies closing in negative territory.

The market opened weak and remained under pressure throughout the session, with the benchmark DSEX index losing 82 points at closing.

Likewise, the Shariah-based DSES index lost 13 points, while the blue-chip DS30 index declined 33 points.

Of the traded securities, prices fell for 308 companies, while 52 advanced and 33 remained unchanged.

Turnover at the Dhaka bourse also dropped, with shares and units worth Tk459 crore traded, down from Tk582 crore in the previous session.

In the block market, shares of 34 companies worth about Tk21 crore changed hands.

Intech Limited topped the gainers’ list with a rise of more than 4.5 per cent.

First Finance Limited was the worst loser, shedding 10 per cent.

The CSE also witnessed a sharp decline as its benchmark CASPI index fell 192 points.

Among traded issues at the port city bourse, 126 companies declined, 41 advanced and 14 remained unchanged.

Turnover at the CSE rose sharply to Tk41 crore, compared with Tk8 crore in the previous session.

IFL Islamic Mutual Fund-1 was the top gainer at the Chittagong bourse with a 10 per cent increase.

Takaful Islami Insurance PLC was the worst performer, losing 10 per cent.
