Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki has announced a month-long programme to commemorate the July uprising, with activities beginning on July 1 and the main events scheduled from July 14 to August 5.
“The goal is to revive the spirit of national unity associated with the July uprising,” Farooki said at a press briefing held at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka on Wednesday. The briefing was convened to share outcomes from the latest meeting of the council of advisers.
Farooki added that the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing will release further details about the programme next Monday.
Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam, also speaking at the briefing, said nine advisers attended the day’s meeting. Among other decisions, a committee has been formed to explore autonomy for Bangladesh Betar and Bangladesh Television. The committee will be chaired by Education Adviser CR Abrar.
Additionally, a separate committee has been established to draft the July Proclamation, which Alam described as “a longstanding demand of students and the public.” The proclamation committee, led by Planning Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud, will collaborate with students and political parties to finalize the document before August 5.
In another key decision, the council of advisers has designated August 5 as Student-People Uprising Day, which will now be observed as a public holiday.
