Spanish goalkeeper Raúl Ramírez Osorio has died at the age of 19 after sustaining a head injury during a league match.

Ramírez, who played for Colindres in Spain’s fifth-tier Tercera Federación, collapsed on the pitch during their game against Revilla on 27 September.

According to Spanish media, the teenager suffered a severe blow to the head that led to multiple cardiac arrests. He received immediate treatment on the pitch, including mouth-to-mouth resuscitation from his manager and further aid from a nursing student present at the ground. Ramírez was later transferred in critical condition to Marqués de Valdecilla Hospital in Santander, where he was placed in intensive care.

Despite efforts to save him, the Royal Cantabrian Football Federation confirmed on 29 september that Ramírez was declared brain dead following the collision and had passed away. At the request of his family, his organs have been donated to help others.

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) expressed its deepest condolences to Ramírez’s family, friends, and Colindres Sports Club, and announced three days of mourning. A minute’s silence will also be observed before all matches next week in his memory.
