The International Cricket Council (ICC) released its updated ODI rankings on Wednesday, with Bangladesh’s Soumya Sarkar making the biggest move among the country’s players following an impressive performance in the recent series against the West Indies.
Bangladesh won the three-match ODI series 2–1, with Soumya scoring 140 runs across the matches. His efforts, which included a superb 91 in the final game and 45 in the Super Over decider, lifted him 24 places to 62nd in the ICC batting rankings.
Towhid Hridoy remains Bangladesh’s highest-ranked ODI batter at 35, holding his position despite scoring a total of 91 runs in the series, including a top score of 51 in the first match. Najmul Hossain Shanto, who also scored 91 runs, moved up one place to 42nd.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz retained his position at 63 after contributing 66 runs across three matches. Liton Das, who missed the series due to injury, dropped five places to 96th. No other Bangladeshi batter features in the top 100, with Saif Hassan, despite scoring 89 runs, falling just short of a place.
In the bowling rankings, Miraz climbed one place to 17th after taking three wickets in the series. Left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed made the biggest leap among Bangladeshi bowlers, rising 24 places to 47th following a five-wicket haul in two matches at an economy rate of 3.06. Leg-spinner Rishad Hossain, who claimed a series-best 12 wickets, moved up four spots to 62nd.
Tanvir Islam, who took five wickets in three matches, rose 27 places to joint 68th. However, several other Bangladeshi bowlers slipped down the list: Tanzim Hasan Sakib fell four spots to 77th, Shoriful Islam dropped two to 63rd, Mustafizur Rahman slipped two to 60th and Taskin Ahmed also fell two to 40th.
Meanwhile, India’s Rohit Sharma made history by becoming the world’s top-ranked ODI batter for the first time in his career. The 38-year-old overtook Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran and Indian teammate Shubman Gill after scoring an unbeaten century in the third ODI against Australia, leading India to a nine-wicket win.
Rohit, who has been a consistent member of the top 10 for more than a decade, reached the No. 1 position in the format for the first time following his match-winning innings.
