Bangladesh have seen notable progress in the latest ICC women’s rankings following the opening matches of the Women’s World Cup, with Sobhana Mostary, Fahima Khatun and Rabeya Khan making significant strides.
Sobhana Mostary’s maiden ODI half-century came against England, where she scored 60 runs off 8 fours. Despite Bangladesh’s struggles with the bat in the tournament, that innings was enough to lift her 15 places to 70th in the batting rankings. She could not reach double figures in the subsequent matches against New Zealand and South Africa, but her performance against England has clearly had a positive impact on her standing.
Leg-spinning all-rounder Fahima Khatun has also climbed in the rankings. She advanced seven spots to 92nd in the batting rankings and has seen an even bigger jump in the bowlers’ list, rising 18 places to 27th. Over her last three ODIs, Fahima claimed a total of five wickets, demonstrating her growing influence in the team.
Rabeya Khan has made steady progress among bowlers, moving up three positions to 18th. Both Rabeya and Fahima have also improved in the ODI all-rounders’ rankings, with Rabeya jumping 23 spots to 26th and Fahima following closely, up 15 places.
Among Bangladeshi bowlers, left-arm spinner Nahida Akter remains the highest-ranked, although she has slipped two places to 11th after taking just three wickets across three matches last week. Pacer Marufa Akter, who had climbed in the rankings previously, has dropped four places to joint 45th after underwhelming performances in her last two games.
Within the team, Sharmin Akter continues to be Bangladesh’s highest-ranked batter at 31st, following consistent contributions in recent matches.
