Shai Hope has been recalled to the West Indies Test side for the upcoming three-match series against Australia, beginning on 25 June at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown. The white-ball captain, last seen in the longest format in 2021, has been rewarded for his consistent performances in limited-overs cricket.
The 30-year-old right-hander, who has amassed 1,726 runs in 38 Tests including two centuries, will be looking to re-establish himself in the red-ball set-up. His return was warmly welcomed by head coach Daren Sammy, who is overseeing a period of transition for the Caribbean side.
“I’m excited about the inclusion of young prospect Kevlon Anderson, who comes in after solid seasons in our domestic competitions to help provide stability in the top order, while the return of Shai Hope is welcomed given his consistency in white-ball cricket,” Sammy said.
Anderson, a promising 23-year-old right-handed batter from Guyana, could make his international debut following a strong domestic campaign. His selection signals a nod to the future, as West Indies aim to rebuild ahead of the next World Test Championship cycle.
However, there was no place for experienced seamer Kemar Roach. The 36-year-old, who has taken 284 Test wickets, has been left out of the 16-man squad, perhaps signalling the end of an era.
Shamar Joseph, who memorably starred in the West Indies’ remarkable victory over Australia in Brisbane earlier this year, retains his spot. His pace and fire will be crucial once more against a strong Australian batting line-up.
The second Test will be held in St George’s, Grenada, with the final match taking place in Kingston, Jamaica. The series forms part of the 2025–27 ICC World Test Championship.
