Activists of Jatiya Chhatra Shakti, a student organisation, have blocked Shahbagh intersection in Dhaka demanding arrest of the attackers who shot Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.
The protesters also called for resignation of Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.
The blockade began around noon on Monday, disrupting traffic movement and causing severe inconvenience to commuters. The student group had announced the programme in a press release earlier.
The statement said the failure to apprehend the assailants and the worsening law and order situation across the country highlights government negligence.
Hadi, also prospective independent candidate for Dhaka-8, was shot on Friday afternoon while travelling in a rickshaw in Dhaka’s Bijoynagar. The shots were fired from a passing motorcycle, striking him in the head.
