Prince Harry is facing a defamation case in London brought by Sentebale, the African charity he helped establish in memory of Princess Diana.
The organisation, which works with children and young people affected by HIV in Botswana and Lesotho, says it suffered serious reputational and operational damage after what it described as a coordinated negative media campaign beginning on 25 March 2025.
Court records indicate that Harry and his longtime associate Mark Dyer, a former trustee of the charity, are named in the High Court case. While the full legal documents have not been made public, Sentebale said that it is seeking legal protection and remedies over the alleged harm caused to the charity, its leadership, and its partners, reports AP-UNB from London.
A spokesperson for Harry and Dyer denied the accusations, calling them false and harmful. The case is notable because Harry has more often appeared in court as a claimant, especially in recent years when he pursued legal action against British tabloids over privacy violations and unlawful information-gathering.
Founded around two decades ago by Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, Sentebale was created to continue Princess Diana’s humanitarian legacy, particularly her efforts to reduce stigma around HIV and AIDS.
Internal tensions reportedly emerged in 2023 over fundraising strategy, and in March 2025 both founders resigned as patrons after a breakdown in relations between the board and chairwoman Sophie Chandauka. Chandauka later alleged that Harry had been involved in efforts to pressure her out of the organisation through bullying and harassment claims.
During the dispute, she also told Sky News that production related to one of Harry’s Netflix projects disrupted a Sentebale fundraising event, and that a separate issue involving Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, added to internal strain.
The Charity Commission for England and Wales later reviewed the matter and criticised both sides for allowing the conflict to spill into public view, saying it had damaged the charity’s reputation and distracted from its mission. However, the commission said it did not find evidence of widespread bullying or misogyny within the organisation.
Harry’s team criticised the findings, while Chandauka said she welcomed them.
