Cricket Scotland confirmed on Sunday that the ICC invited its men’s team to play in the upcoming T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka, and Scotland accepted after Bangladesh withdrew from the tournament.
The ICC slotted Scotland into Group C, closing the gap left by Bangladesh’s exit. The decision reshapes the tournament landscape without altering the schedule.
Trudy Lindblade, Cricket Scotland’s Chief Executive, set the tone quickly, saying, “Earlier today I received correspondence from the ICC asking if our men’s team would play at the Men’s T20 World Cup, and we have accepted.” Scotland moved decisively, knowing these chances rarely come twice.
Lindblade welcomed the bigger picture while keeping perspective. “We are grateful to the ICC for extending this invite. This is an exciting opportunity for Scotland’s players to compete on the global stage in front of millions of supporters,” she said, before acknowledging, “this opportunity has arisen out of challenging and unique circumstances.”
Preparation already sits well underway. Lindblade confirmed, “Our squad have been training for some weeks in preparation for upcoming tours and are now preparing to arrive in India imminently to acclimatise to local conditions,” a practical move that shows Scotland mean business rather than sightseeing.
At board level, the message matched the urgency. Wilf Walsh, Chair of Cricket Scotland, said, “I welcomed a call from ICC Chair Jay Shah earlier today confirming that Scotland will receive an invitation to play at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.”
Walsh underlined the squad’s mindset. “I was pleased to accept on behalf of our team, who are willing and ready to go. We thank the ICC for this opportunity,” he said, signalling intent rather than gratitude alone.
