The Supreme Court will hold virtual court proceedings for both its Appellate and High Court Divisions on Wednesdays and Thursdays, starting April 22.
The decision was made to minimise physical court appearances and reduce energy consumption amid the current economic situation. The Supreme Court administration issued a notification on Monday outlining the new schedule.
According to the notification, the move follows the Information Technology Use Act, 2020, and the relevant Practice Directions, which guide the use of information technology in judicial proceedings.
Virtual court sessions will be held on Wednesdays and Thursdays, while physical court hearings will continue as usual from Sunday to Tuesday.
The Supreme Court’s Registrar General, Mohammad Habibur Rahman Siddiquee, signed the notification, which emphasised that daily cause lists and virtual meeting IDs for hearings, including those of the Chamber Judge Court, will be published on the Supreme Court’s website.
This arrangement will remain in effect until further notice, as the court adapts to the global energy constraints while continuing its judicial duties.
