A death threat has allegedly been issued against Shahran, the brother of late actor Salman Shah, amid the ongoing murder case surrounding the actor’s death.
Salman Shah’s maternal uncle and the complainant in the case, Mohammad Alamgir Kumkum, on Wednesday showed journalists a screenshot of the alleged threat after a Dhaka court rejected the bail petition of accused actor Ashraful Haque, popularly known as Don.
According to Kumkum, the threat was posted in the comments section of a Facebook Live hosted by a Salman Shah fan named Mamun.
He claimed that an account using the name Sakil Kibria posted the threatening message.
The comment allegedly warned Salman Shah’s mother, Neela Chowdhury, against continuing to pursue the case and threatened to kill Shahran.
Kumkum said the family would file a general diary (GD) at Ramna Police Station over the alleged threat.
Mamun, who was present at the court, told journalists that he had gone live on Facebook to call for a human chain by Salman Shah fans.
He said the threatening comment appeared during the broadcast and was later deleted when the screenshot was taken.
The alleged threat surfaced on the same day that a Dhaka court rejected Don’s bail application in the Salman Shah murder case.
Don’s lawyers, including M Faridul Islam and Tarikul Islam Jewel, sought bail, arguing that there was no specific allegation against him in the case statement or arrest warrant and that he was not involved in the alleged crime.
Public Prosecutor Omar Faruk Faruki opposed the bail application. After hearing both sides, Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ehsanul Islam rejected the petition.
Don was arrested on 9 August at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
He was reportedly taken into custody by the Criminal Investigation Department after immigration authorities flagged him while he was preparing to travel to Saudi Arabia for Umrah.
He was subsequently sent to jail.
Salman Shah died at his residence in Eskaton, Dhaka, on 6 September 1996. His death was initially treated as suicide, but nearly three decades later, a murder case was filed following a court order.
On 20 October 2025, Alamgir Kumkum filed the case at Ramna Police Station on behalf of Neela Chowdhury, naming 11 people, including Salman Shah’s former wife Samira Haque and Don.
The alleged death threat has now added another layer of tension to a case that has remained the subject of public debate for nearly three decades.
