Labor and Employment Adviser Brigadier General (Retd) M Sakhawat Hussain has said that the government is not directly responsible for paying workers’ wages, but rather it is the responsibility of employers.
“Salary payment lies with employers, not the government,” he said while speaking at a seminar on sustainable reforms in the labour sector in Dhaka on Wednesday morning. He outlined the government’s ongoing efforts to address the country’s labor issues.
He added that substantial efforts are being made to amend the labor laws, with a primary focus on bringing about meaningful reforms. “The work on labour law amendments is nearing completion,” Hossain said, pointing to significant changes ahead in the labor sector once the reforms are implemented.
The adviser assured that the government is fully committed to protecting workers’ rights. He also affirmed that no worker will remain without proper compensation, stressing the government’s vigilance in ensuring fair treatment for all.
