Mohammad Salahuddin, who joined as the assistant coach of the Bangladesh national cricket team on 5 November last year, is reportedly set to step down from his position after the upcoming series against Ireland. Salahuddin, a senior coach, was also given charge of the batting unit during the West Indies series, his first assignment since returning to the national setup.
Under his guidance, Bangladesh’s batting performance has shown signs of inconsistency, with players struggling to maintain form. During a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) meeting on Monday, former captain Mohammad Ashraful was appointed as the batting coach for the Ireland series. Just a day later, reports surfaced that Salahuddin intends to resign after the series.
According to reports, Salahuddin is expected to leave his role once the Ireland series concludes. However, a BCB official told local sources that the board has not yet received his resignation letter. Attempts to contact Nazmul Abedin Fahim, chairman of cricket operations, for further comment were unsuccessful.
Salahuddin had originally signed a contract with the BCB until the 2027 World Cup, but he is said to be stepping down for personal reasons.
Earlier this week, following the BCB meeting, board director Abdur Razzak commented on Salahuddin’s role. When asked whether Ashraful’s appointment indicated a lack of confidence in Salahuddin, Razzak clarified, “Salahuddin bhai is a senior assistant coach. No one has been removed for failure. Ashraful has simply been added to the coaching panel.”
