Ganosamhati Andolon chief coordinator Zonayed Saki, the BNP-supported candidate for Brahmanbaria-6, has urged voters to support a “new political arrangement” and cast a ‘Yes’ vote in the upcoming referendum, saying the nation has been presented with a historic opportunity to rebuild.

Speaking on Monday during his campaign in Baherchar Union of Bancharampur, Saki said the opportunity has been created by the people of Bangladesh-children, women, the elderly, and citizens of all faiths, including Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists and Christians.

He especially praised the youth for playing a decisive role in toppling the fascist government through their sacrifice.

“We realised that the fate of the people cannot change without a mass uprising,” he said. “To achieve this, 39 political parties, including the BNP, launched a joint movement.”

Saki said his aim is not merely to seize power, but to transform the nature of governance. “We have proposed a 31-point roadmap for state reform and restoration,” he said. “Based on this, we conducted a ‘one-point’ movement. We want a new political order.”

He urged voters to approve the reform blueprint in the referendum scheduled for 12 February. “We will vote ‘Yes’,” he said. “Our movement was about changing the government and the system. The fascist government has fallen.

Now our struggle is to change the system of governance.”

The candidate also promised to ensure safety in Bancharampur, pledging that terrorism and drug trafficking would have no place in the area.

He stressed the need for quality education and technical training so that young people can connect with global opportunities from their own community.

Saki further called for fair wages for the country’s workers, farmers and expatriates, saying their hard-earned money must be properly valued.

He emphasised that voting is the foundation of democracy and urged people to defend the election process. “If anyone tries to rig votes or seize polling centres, you must resist collectively,” he said. “Do not sell your dignity for money or any temptation. Guard the polling centres until results are announced.”

During the day-long campaign, Saki visited various wards of Baherchar Union, continuing his outreach across the area.
