Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam has said safety and security remain the government’s top priorities before integrating nuclear power into the national grid.
Speaking on the timeline for the project, he emphasised that there is no room for haste and that scientists are currently working to ensure all protocols are met. The public will be informed of the specific integration date in the near future.
The Minister made these remarks as the chief guest at “Robofusion 1.0,” a day-long national robotics festival held on Saturday at the Kaliakoir Hi-Tech Park in Gazipur.
The event was organised by the University of Frontier Technology, Bangladesh (UFTB).
Addressing the issue of “brain drain” and the shortage of specialised manpower, the Minister highlighted that the country’s nuclear power sector requires a significant number of scientists.
He urged Bangladeshi experts and students residing abroad to return home and contribute to the nation’s progress, noting their responsibility towards the country.
Regarding industrial development, Fakir issued a warning concerning unutilised land at the Gazipur Hi-Tech Park. He noted that while several entities have been allocated plots, many have yet to begin operations.
“We will investigate why they have been unable to start work and if they are facing any difficulties,” he said, adding that the government would take necessary action to reallocate plots if needed.
He described the park as a “flagship” project of the ministry and noted that investors from China, Europe, and America are keen to invest in the facility.
The festival was chaired by UFTB Vice-Chancellor Md Moktar Ali.
Special guests in attendance included Md Mujibur Rahman, MP for Gazipur-1; Md Mamunur Rashid Bhuiyan, Secretary of the Information and Communication Technology Division; and Nurul Karim Bhuiya, Deputy Commissioner.
The “Robofusion 1.0” competition featured over 550 students across 166 teams. Participants demonstrated their innovative skills in five distinct categories: Line Following Robot, Robo Soccer, Techathon, Project Showcase, and Boat Racing.
