A Russian national was killed and another seriously injured in a fight between the two while they were allegedly intoxicated at Rooppur in Ishwardi, Pabna, on Monday morning.
The incident took place on the fifth floor of Building No 6 at Rooppur Green City, the residential complex for foreign workers employed at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project.
The deceased was identified as Kudrin Sergei, 56, an ultrasonic testing inspector employed by project contractor Trest Rossem. He lived in Room No 51 of the building.
Police and local residents said the two Russian nationals became involved in an argument after drinking alcohol in the morning, which later escalated into a physical fight.
Both sustained serious injuries and were taken to Green City Hospital. As Sergei’s condition deteriorated, he was being transferred to a private hospital in Pabna but died on the way.
Pranab Kumar, additional superintendent of police for Ishwardi Circle, said the body had been recovered and sent to the morgue at Pabna General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Police are investigating the incident, while the process of taking legal action is under way, he added.
