Veteran singer Runa Laila will perform in support of flood victims at a special honouring ceremony and solo concert on 24 July.
The event, originally scheduled for 18 July, has been postponed and will now take place at 6:30 pm at the National Theatre Hall of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
Organised with the patronage of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, the programme will honour the legendary singer for her outstanding contribution to music and for elevating Bangladesh’s cultural identity on the international stage. The organisers said the event will also raise support for people affected by the recent floods.
Runa Laila has remained one of the subcontinent’s most celebrated voices. Her music has transcended entertainment to become a symbol of aesthetic beauty, humanity, love, patriotism and cultural harmony.
Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury, MP, will attend the programme as the chief guest. State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Newaz Mahmud Khaiyum, MP, and Dr Jahed Ur Rahman, Adviser (with the rank of State Minister) for Policy and Strategy at the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, will attend as special guests.
The programme will be chaired by Kaniz Mowla, Secretary of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs. Director General of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and poet Sheikh Rezauddin Ahmed (Rezauddin Stalin) will deliver the welcome address, while Academy Secretary Mohammad Zakir Hossain will offer the vote of thanks.
During the evening, Runa Laila will perform a selection of her most popular and celebrated songs.
