BNP’s expelled leader and Brahmanbaria-2 independent candidate Rumeen Farhana has said she will lodge a complaint with the European Union (EU) over alleged irregularities in the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election.
She spoke to journalists on Thursday after meeting election commissioners at the Election Commission (EC) headquarters.
Rumeen Farhana, who faces allegations of breaching the code of conduct for offensive gesturing, showing her thumb to an executive magistrate, said, “I have submitted my written response. Today, I also brought a response to the EC I should have been in the field campaigning, but I had to come to Dhaka because the administration and police, who are supposed to remain neutral, are clearly not.”
She alleged that her campaign workers had been attacked in their homes, beaten and sent to hospital, with heads injured and houses set on fire.
“No cases have been filed yet. I came to inform the EC, as I am an independent candidate facing major parties. If the administration is not impartial, another election like 2018 will end badly for everyone,” she added.
She further said, “I have a meeting today with European Union observers. I will brief them on these issues as well, and I want to state very clearly that no political party should dare to engage in manipulation over Bangladesh’s elections.”
“I will call on all parties. People have struggled for 15 years to ensure a free and fair election in this country. We fought from our respective positions, regardless of which party we belonged to. So, we will not allow another rigged election, another manipulated election, in Bangladesh, Inshallah” Rumeen Farhana added.
