A Rohingya man was injured on Monday in a landmine explosion planted by the Arakan Army inside Myanmar, adjacent to Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar.
The injured was identified as Md Salman, 27. His right leg was severed from the ankle.
Lt Col Md Zahirul Islam, commanding officer of Ukhiya Battalion‑64 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), confirmed the matter.
The blast occurred around 250 yards inside Myanmar from the zero line, near Katapahar post in Balukhali BOP of Ukhiya. Locals rescued him and took him to Kutupalong MSF Hospital, from where he was referred to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for advanced care, Lt Col Zahirul said.
Earlier, on 24 May, a landmine explosion at the Naikhongchhari border in Bandarban killed three Bangladeshi citizens in the zero‑line area of the Ghumdhum border.
The deceased were identified as Lethaiya Chakma, 41, Ankyamong Chakma, 50, and Chingkya Ang Chakma, 40.
According to BGB, in the past year and a half, more than 40 people have lost their legs or sustained injuries in landmine explosions along the border areas. At least four died in the incidents.
