Andy Robertson will leave Liverpool at the end of the current season, the club confirmed on Wednesday, bringing an end to a highly successful nine-year spell at Anfield.

The 32-year-old left-back, who joined from Hull City in 2017 for £8 million, has been a central figure in one of the club’s most successful modern eras, winning two Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League among a total of nine trophies.

In a video message announcing his decision, Robertson said the timing felt right to move on. “I think now’s the time for me to move on,” the Scotland captain explained, adding that he would look back on his Liverpool career “with a big smile”.

Robertson’s opportunities have been limited during the current campaign under head coach Arne Slot, particularly following the arrival of Hungarian left-back Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth.

A potential move to Tottenham Hotspur was discussed during the January transfer window, with an agreement in principle reached. However, Liverpool opted against completing the transfer due to squad constraints, including their inability to recall Kostas Tsimikas from loan at AS Roma.

Over the course of his Liverpool career, Robertson has made 373 appearances and established himself as one of the Premier League’s most consistent full-backs.

Reflecting on his time at the club, he emphasised his connection with supporters and commitment to finishing strongly. “This club means everything to me… until my very last day, I’ll give everything,” he said, noting that a proper farewell would come closer to the end of the season.
