Several link roads in Manirampur upazila of Jashore have collapsed following heavy rainfall, rendering them unfit for vehicular movement and forcing pedestrians to travel at great risk.
Despite visits to the affected sites by local Member of Parliament Advocate Gazi Enamul Haque and Upazila BNP General Secretary Asaduzzaman Mintu, relevant authorities have yet to initiate visible repair work, leading to widespread frustration among the public.
The Parkhajura road, one of the busiest thoroughfares in the upazila, recently suffered a total collapse in its middle section due to the downpour.
With no alternative routes available, residents and students from local schools and colleges are forced to navigate a hazardous, muddy, and slippery path along the edge of the road.
Local resident Shahidul Islam reported that the road collapsed severely after a tree was uprooted during the heavy rain. Sohan and Sahedul Islam, both Class VI students at Parkhajura Secondary School, shared that they must struggle through the mud every day to reach their classes.
In another area, the Manirampur-Khanpur link road has been severely damaged after one side of the Khamarbari bridge collapsed. Zakir Hossain Khan, a local resident, expressed fears that the entire bridge might collapse if heavy rainfall occurs again.
Similarly, a portion of the Manirampur-Mathurapur link road near a mosque has collapsed into a pond.
Locals, including Imdadul Islam, Jamshed Hossain, Akram Hossain, and Joydev Kumar, have expressed their anger over the lack of visible progress in repairing the damaged infrastructure.
When contacted, Upazila Engineer Md Yakub Ali said proposals for the road repairs have already been sent to the relevant department.
