Model and actress Ridika Ridi was found hanging from a ceiling fan at a residence in Dhaka’s Bashundhara Residential Area on Saturday morning.
Friends reportedly found her hanging at around 6am and took her to Kurmitola Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Police later visited the residence and prepared an inquest report. Her body was subsequently sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Confirming the incident to Times of Bangladesh, Mohammad Mazharul Islam, officer-in-charge of Bhatara Police Station, said police initially suspected that Ridi had died by suicide.
“An actress named Ridika was found dead on Saturday morning. We initially suspect that she died by hanging herself. Further details will be known after we receive the autopsy report,” he said.
The OC added that the family was in the process of filing a case in connection with the incident.
According to family members and police, Ridi was reportedly in a relationship with someone.
Early Saturday morning, she allegedly had an argument with the person during a video call.
Police suspect that she died by suicide while the call was still ongoing.
No one has been arrested in connection with the incident so far.
However, police are questioning the man who was reportedly in a relationship with Ridi, the OC said.
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death, while the autopsy report is expected to provide further information.
Ridi worked as a model and had also acted in several television dramas. Her notable works include Bahurupi, Double Honeymoon and Sundori.
