Bangladesh received more than $2 billion in remittances in the first 19 days of August, maintaining strong growth in foreign currency inflows, according to the latest data from Bangladesh Bank.
From 1 to 19 August of the current fiscal year (FY2026-27), Bangladeshi expatriates sent home $2.03 billion, marking a 29.1 percent increase from $1.57 billion received during the same period of the previous fiscal year.
On 19 August alone, remittance inflows stood at $64 million.
Cumulative remittance receipts from 1 July to 19 August of FY27 reached $4.89 billion, up 20.7 percent from $4.05 billion recorded during the corresponding period of FY26.
Central bank officials attributed the sustained growth in remittance inflows to improved banking channels, competitive exchange rates and policy support encouraging expatriate Bangladeshis to send money through formal channels.
