The Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) has arrested an Indian citizen with three kilogrammes of Kush (a synthetic drug) at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka.
Hussain Abdul Kadar Shaikh, 48, from Karnataka was arrested on Saturday afternoon at the Green Channel of the arrival hall.
Acting on information from an intelligence agency, a special DNC team led by Assistant Director Md Abu Sayeed Miah of the Dhaka Metro (North) and HSIA offices took position around 2pm. Abdul Kadar, who arrived from Bangkok on Thai Airways flight TG321, was stopped on suspicion.
A search of his trolley bag, conducted in the presence of witnesses and airport officials, uncovered three kilogrammes of Kush concealed under clothing.
The officials seized the drugs along with Abdul Kadar’s Indian passport, boarding card, ID card, and a smartphone with a VI SIM card. Foreign and local currencies including USD 400, 1,550 Thai Baht and INR 400 were also confiscated.
During primary interrogation, Abdul Kadar admitted he planned to stay in Bangladesh with the help of local accomplices involved in drug trafficking.
A case has been filed against him at Airport Police Station under the Narcotics Control Act, 2018. Sub‑inspector Rokeya Akter of the DNC Dhaka Metro Office (North), Airport Circle, is the complainant.
