Supreme Court lawyer Md Kamruzzaman on Tuesday sent a legal notice to the relevant ministries to ensure that two banners are displayed in front of every office and institution across the country to significantly increase publicity for the national referendum.
The notice was sent via registered post to the secretaries of the Cabinet Division, the Ministry of Public Administration, Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Law.
The secretaries have been asked to take necessary action within 24 hours.
According to the notice, a directive issued by the Cabinet Division on 7 January mandated the display of two large banners in front of all government, private, and autonomous organisations, as well as educational institutions, Union Parishads, Upazila Parishads, and Zila Parishads until the election.
However, the notice claims this instruction has not been followed.
It further stated that certain field-level officials and employees have shown reluctance in carrying out the publicity campaign for the referendum. Additionally, some leaders and activists from a few political parties have reportedly taken a stance against the referendum.
Lawyer Kamruzzaman noted that information from various media outlets suggests field-level officials are failing to implement the directives of chief adviser and Cabinet Division, exhibiting a clear lack of interest.
