Real Madrid’s blistering start to the season continued on Wednesday night, as they swept aside Levante with a 4-1 win at the Santiago Bernabéu. Kylian Mbappe netted twice, while Vinicius Jr and teenager Franco Mastantuono were also on the scoresheet to make it six wins from six for Xabi Alonso’s side.
Madrid dictated the game early, probing through midfield and forcing Levante goalkeeper Mathew Ryan into a string of sharp stops. He could do little to prevent the opener, though, as Vinicius produced a delightful trivela finish into the far corner. Moments later, Mastantuono doubled the advantage, showing composure to beat his marker before rifling into the roof of the net.
The hosts threatened to extend their lead before half-time, but Ryan kept Levante alive with more interventions. The visitors clawed their way back after the break, a deflected effort looping awkwardly over Thibaut Courtois and allowing Etta Eyong to nod home from close range.
Madrid responded with authority. Mbappe restored the two-goal cushion on the hour mark from the penalty spot, before adding his second soon after to kill off any hopes of a Levante comeback.
Though the performance was not flawless, Madrid’s cutting edge in attack made the difference. With Vinicius rediscovering his touch and Mbappe in ruthless form, Alonso’s men look increasingly confident heading into the Madrid derby this weekend.
