The Maitree Super Thermal Power Plant in Rampal has set a national record in electricity generation.
The Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company Limited (BIFPCL) plant produced 760 million units of electricity in April, accounting for more than 9 percent of the country’s total generation, BIFPCL Deputy General Manager Anwarul Azim told on Sunday, reports BSS.
BIFPCL Managing Director Ramanath Pujari said, “Operating the plant at almost full capacity during peak demand reflects our robust design and the relentless efforts of the team. This achievement is a unique example of our rigorous management approach and successful cooperation between the two countries.”
The plant is currently operated by a team of skilled Bangladeshi engineers who received training under the supervision of experts from India’s National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC).
Officials said NTPC continues to provide advisory support, while local engineers now handle day-to-day operations of the large-scale facility. They described this as a significant milestone in Bangladesh’s effort to build technical capacity in the power sector.
