The National Moon Sighting Committee will meet at the Islamic Foundation’s conference room at Baitul Mukarram on Wednesday evening to review reports of sighting the Ramadan moon. If the moon for the month of Shawwal is sighted on Wednesday, fasting (roza) will begin on Thursday.
Following this, the Islamic Foundation will determine the starting date of Ramadan. Additionally, they have provided phone numbers to report information if the moon is sighted from any part of the country.
In a notice, the Islamic Foundation stated that a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee will be held at 6pm on Wednesday in the Islamic Foundation Baitul Mukarram conference room, chaired by the minister for Religious Affairs, to sight the moon for the holy month of Ramadan for the Hijri year 1447 and to make decisions regarding this matter.
If the holy Ramadan moon is sighted anywhere in the sky of Bangladesh, concerned District Commissioners or Upazila Executive Officers have been requested to be informed.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia has called upon the Muslim citizens of the country to sight the Ramadan moon this evening (29th Shaban, 1447 Hijri).
Observers have been requested to inform the nearest court if anyone sights the moon. Saudi Arabia may announce the result of the moon sighting around 6pm Makkah time.
