Tanzid Hasan’s scintillating century in the BPL final could not lift Rajshahi Warriors beyond a modest total, as they finished on 174 for 4 in 20 overs despite the opener’s dominance at the top.
Batting first after Chattogram Royals won the toss, Rajshahi began cautiously before Tanzid took control of the innings. He reached his half-century off just 29 balls and went on to complete a superb hundred with a single in the 19th over, his third BPL century, the highest by any Bangladeshi batter in the tournament’s history.
Tanzid’s knock came off 61 balls, featuring seven sixes and six fours, and made him only the third player to score a century in a BPL final, after Chris Gayle in 2017 and Tamim Iqbal in 2019. However, once he was dismissed for 100 off 62 balls, Rajshahi struggled to accelerate further in the closing stages.
Despite adding 10 runs from the final five deliveries, Rajshahi could not fully capitalise on the platform laid by their opener. Kane Williamson contributed a brisk 24 off 15 balls before falling to Shoriful, while the rest of the middle order failed to provide a decisive late surge.
Chattogram’s bowlers, led throughout the tournament by Shoriful, kept things tight at crucial moments. The left-arm pacer has now claimed the highest number of wickets in a single BPL season.
With a total of 174 on the board, Rajshahi were left hoping their bowlers could defend a score that felt underwhelming given the presence of a century-maker at the crease for most of the innings.
