QTerminals, one of the world’s largest port terminal operators, is exploring investment opportunities in Chattogram Port as Bangladesh seeks international partners to expand capacity and modernise the country’s busiest maritime gateway.
The Qatar-based company expressed its interest during a meeting between its Group Chief Executive Officer Marco Neelsen and Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) Chairman Rear Admiral SM Moniruzzaman during a visit to the port on Sunday, according to a CPA press release.
The discussions centred on expanding the port’s handling capacity, upgrading infrastructure and identifying opportunities for foreign investment and technical collaboration to support the development of world-class port facilities.
For Bangladesh, attracting experienced global terminal operators has become increasingly important as container volumes grow and pressure mounts to improve efficiency, reduce logistics costs and strengthen the country’s export competitiveness.
Moniruzzaman said the port is prioritising infrastructure expansion and the adoption of advanced technologies to reduce container congestion, shorten vessel turnaround time and enable the direct handling of larger container vessels.
He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to bringing in foreign investment and international expertise to develop Chattogram Port into a regional maritime hub.
QTerminals described Chattogram Port as strategically located and acknowledged improvements in its operations and management in recent years. The company said it was interested in assessing investment opportunities and contributing to the development of Bangladesh’s port sector by drawing on its global experience in terminal operations.
The delegation also toured the port’s jetties, container yards and operational facilities, where it reviewed digital systems including the Port Community System, CPA Sky platform, security infrastructure and digital cargo tracking system.
Both sides agreed to continue discussions and technical evaluations as they explore potential areas of future cooperation.
