Qatar announced on Saturday that it will convene an urgent Arab-Islamic summit on September 15 following the Israeli strike that targeted Hamas officials inside its territory.
According to Majed bin Mohammed Al-Ansari, adviser to the prime minister and spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry, speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), “the summit will discuss a draft resolution on the Israeli attack on the State of Qatar, submitted by the preparatory meeting of Arab and Islamic foreign ministers, which will be held tomorrow Sunday.”
He emphasized that holding the summit now “has its significance,” particularly in showing “the broad Arab and Islamic solidarity with the State of Qatar.”
Describing the strike, Ansari said it was “cowardly aggression” and amounted to “state terrorism practiced by Israel.”
On Tuesday, Israel struck a residential complex in Doha where Hamas representatives were staying. The assault killed five Hamas members and one Qatari security officer. At the time, the Hamas officials were engaged in talks regarding a new US-backed proposal to halt the war in Gaza which has left more than 64,000 dead since October 2023. Qatar, together with the US and Egypt, has been facilitating negotiations aimed at ending the war.
