Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has expressed deep shock at the death of eminent folk singer Farida Parveen, widely revered as the “Queen of Lalon Geeti.”
In a condolence message at midnight (14 September), the Chief Adviser said that although Farida Parveen also performed Nazrul Sangeet, patriotic songs, and other genres, her unique rendition of Lalon Shah’s timeless compositions earned her a special place in the hearts of music lovers.
“For five decades, her voice carried the immortal songs of Lalon to people’s hearts, elevating the underlying philosophy of our culture and the meaning of life to new heights,” he said.
Yunus observed that despite facing many adversities, Farida Parveen never distanced herself from music. “Her passion for singing has inspired generation after generation,” he added.
Paying tribute to her illustrious career, he said the Ekushey Padak-winning singer’s contributions would remain unforgettable and would continue to inspire fresh creativity in Bangladesh’s cultural sphere.
The Chief Adviser prayed for the eternal peace of her departed soul and conveyed his deepest sympathy to the bereaved family members.
Farida Parveen passed away on Saturday at a Dhaka hospital at the age of 71.
