A complaint has been filed against Gono Odhikar Parishad’s Kushtia district unit Organising Secretary Taufiq Ahmed and General Secretary Abdul Khalek over vandalism of lawmaker Mufti Amir Hamza’s car.
Hamza’s personal assistant, government employee Momin Bishwasbadi, submitted the complaint at Kushtia Model Police Station around 12pm on Sunday.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the names of Taufiq Ahmed and Abdul Khalek were mentioned, while another 100–150 unknown individuals were listed as accused.
Speaking on the matter, MP Mufti Amir Hamza said, “After reviewing the footage, I filed the complaint including their fathers’ names. However, I don’t know all the people who were present at the time of the incident.”
Kushtia Model Police Station Officer‑in‑charge Kabir Hossain Matubbar said, “We received the FIR around 12pm. Registration is underway. Legal action will be taken.”
Meanwhile, Amir Hamza held an emergency press conference in Kushtia protesting the attack on his car. The press conference was held at Kushtia district’s Jamaat‑e‑Islami office in Molla Teghoria around 12pm.
In a written statement, the lawmaker alleged that activists of Gono Odhikar Parishad carried out a planned and sudden attack on his motorcade while he was returning from the area. He claimed the attack was intended to destabilise peaceful Kushtia and undermine his welfare activities.
From the conference, he presented three demands and issued a 24‑hour ultimatum. The demands include the arrest of Gono Odhikar Parishad leaders and activists directly or indirectly involved in the attack; exemplary punishment of the masterminds; and the adoption of a ‘zero tolerance’ policy by police and administration free from political pressure.
Calling on Kushtia residents to remain patient, Amir Hamza warned that if the administration fails to quickly arrest the culprits, he will give a strong response on the streets together with the people.
Earlier, on Saturday evening, clashes broke out at Kushtia town’s Chhoy Rastar Mor between activists of Gono Odhikar Parishad and Jamaat‑e‑Islami.
During the clashes, MP Hamza’s vehicle was vandalised. Several people from both sides were injured.
