Actress Puja Chery has denied recent reports claiming that she has married a businessman, saying she is still unmarried and urging the media to refrain from publishing unverified information about her personal life.
Rumours surrounding Puja’s marriage had intensified over the past few days, with some reports claiming that she was set to marry a businessman, while others suggested that the wedding had already taken place.
The actress had remained silent on the matter until Monday night.
At around 11:30pm on Monday, Puja addressed the rumours in a Facebook post, calling the reports “baseless and misleading”.
She said several media outlets had recently published reports about her marriage and personal life without verification, repeatedly linking her name with people from different professions.
“I want to make it clear once again that I am not married yet. When I do get married, you will be the first to know,” Puja wrote.
The actress also referred to an earlier interview in which she had confirmed that she was engaged and that her marriage had been arranged with the consent of both families.
“I had also made it clear that whenever my marriage ceremony takes place, I will announce it publicly myself with great happiness. There is nothing to hide,” she wrote.
Puja said the repeated reports had left her embarrassed and upset. She also questioned the purpose of publishing such stories without verifying the facts and highlighted her right to privacy.
In her post, the actress referred to Articles 31 and 43 of the Constitution of Bangladesh and Section 25 of the Cyber Security Act 2023, saying that interference with personal freedom and the publication of false or baseless information may have legal consequences.
“If someone takes advantage of my silence to publish baseless reports, I will be compelled to protect my legal rights,” she wrote.
Puja also explained her recent absence from the screen.
She said she is currently taking some time for herself and preparing for new projects, which is why she has not been appearing in front of the camera.
She concluded by urging media professionals to publish objective and verified information, while expressing her continued respect for the media and gratitude for the public’s love and support.
Puja began her career as a child artiste and rose to prominence as a leading actress with Poramon 2.
She later appeared in films including Dahan, Noor Jahan, Shaan, Gollui, Hridita, Jinn, Lipstick, Agantuk, Tagor, Masud Rana and Domm.
