Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Tuesday inaugurated the Revenue Conference 2026, the second of its kind in Bangladesh, at the Bangladesh–China Friendship Conference Centre in Dhaka.
Organised by the National Board of Revenue (NBR), the conference aims to strengthen revenue collection, expand the tax net, and improve transparency and accountability in the system.
After opening the event, the prime minister visited stalls showcasing revenue activities, tax administration, and reform initiatives. A video documentary titled “We Will Pay Taxes and Build the Country” was screened at the inaugural session.
The programme was chaired by acting NBR Chairman Ahsan Habib, who moderated an exchange of views between the Prime Minister and officials. During the discussion, officials shared experiences and challenges in revenue collection.
Addressing the session, Tarique urged NBR officials to overcome past differences and work with honesty, efficiency, and dedication. He said the government is committed to fostering an environment for capable officials and will consider their legitimate demands while ensuring prudent use of taxpayers’ money.
Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury and Prime Minister’s Adviser on Finance and Planning Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir also spoke at the programme.
About 1,500 guests attended, including senior government officials, business representatives, and experts.
The first revenue conference was held in 2023, featuring seminars on income tax, VAT, and customs, along with information booths and a revenue museum.
This year’s event continues that initiative, presenting NBR’s activities and strategies for revenue mobilisation and broadening the tax base.
