Ahsan Habib, a member of the National Board of Revenue’s (NBR) tax administration, has been appointed as the acting chairman of the NBR.
The appointment was announced through a gazette notification issued on Monday.
He has also been appointed as the acting secretary of the Internal Resources Division, it added.
A member of the 15th Bangladesh Civil Service (Taxation) cadre, Ahsan Habib graduated first in his class from the Department of Geology at the University of Dhaka.
He also topped his BCS batch.
During his career, he served as commissioner of Tax Zone-15 and later as director general of the Central Intelligence Cell (CIC), where he led several high-profile investigations into tax evasion and financial irregularities.
He also played a significant role in the initiative to recover unpaid taxes from the online gambling platform Ulka Games.
Ahsan Habib is currently serving as president of the BCS Taxation Association.
He will replace Mohammad Abdur Rahman Khan, who was appointed NBR chairman on 14 August, 2024.
