Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) secured a fifth consecutive Ligue 1 title on Wednesday after beating RC Lens 2-0 at Stade Bollaert-Delelis. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia scored the opener before substitute Ibrahim Mbaye added a late second as Luis Enrique’s side moved nine points clear with one match left.
Kvaratskhelia broke the deadlock in the 29th minute. Ousmane Dembele intercepted a loose clearance from Malang Sarr and released the Georgian forward, who controlled the ball before finishing low past the goalkeeper. Mbaye wrapped up the result in stoppage time after Desire Doue squared the ball across the area.
PSG rested several regular starters. Achraf Hakimi, Nuno Mendes, Marquinhos, Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz and Warren Zaire-Emery all started on the bench. Even with the changes, PSG controlled possession and limited Lens to very few clear openings.
Lens came closest through Abdallah Sima, who struck the post in the second half. Florian Thauvin also had a late goal ruled out for offside. Maurizio Sarri’s side still secured second place and a Champions League league-phase spot for next season.
The title marked PSG’s 14th French league crown and their 12th in the last 14 years under Qatari ownership. The club also extended the longest active title streak in Ligue 1, with five consecutive championships since 2022.
“We wanted to come here and win, but we especially want to prepare for the final on May 30,” Ousmane Dembele told beIN Sports.
“We have one more game to come on Sunday against Paris FC. We will celebrate this because it’s official now, we are champions.”
PSG now turn their focus to the Champions League final against Arsenal FC in Budapest on May 30. Luis Enrique’s team already lifted the UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Intercontinental Cup and French Champions Trophy earlier this season.
